In 2009, Rent the Runway disrupted the trillion-dollar fashion industry and changed the way women get dressed forever by pioneering the ‘Closet in the Cloud’: a dream closet filled with an infinite selection of designer styles to rent, wear and return (or keep!) — for a fraction of the cost.
RTR has continued to expand their closet over the past decade, powering the community to save time, money and have more fun getting dressed. All while contributing to a more sustainable future of fashion.
Immersive Software Engineering students can help architect the next generation of services for the ‘closet in the cloud’ while on residency with Rent the Runway. Students will ‘learn by doing’ in real-world environments in some of the world’s most innovative companies, such as RTR.
ISE met the Rent the Runway team to learn more about their award-winning business and how Immersive Software Engineering students can learn on the job during their 6-month residencies. Dorothy Creaven, VP at RTR also discusses furthering the careers of ISE graduates with the world’s largest shared design closet.
RTR feel it’s their responsibility to ensure they’re doing the foundational work, too: Reducing carbon emissions so that they operate with net-zero emissions by 2024 and ensuring their workforce remains diverse and that leadership reflects the population of individual contributors.
